Raab Coates

New Music From The North Country

Biography

Biography
I've been in the music biz for a long time. I was born and raised in a little town called Madison SD. I started out playing in a string of rock bands, then spent some time doing studio work in the Twin Cities area playing drums. After that, did some time messing around with gospel and celtic music. Did the coffee house circuit solo or with various other players for many years and prepandemic, singing and playing acoustic guitar,  I had a little band doing an assortment of covers from many genres with pedal steel, and drums. I released several Americana CDs over the past 15 years. After playing the Big Turn Music Festival in Red Wing,  the pandemic caused us to suspend all gigs, so I took the opportunity to create some new music for the next CD which is a completely different direction. While still Americana influenced here and there, it's a blend of genres from electronic dance to psychedelic rock to folk, spoken word, R and B, and other seemingly incongruous elements. Drums (played by me) are out front with a strong rhythm section.  Also, changed the spelling of my first name so I can be separated from the other Robert Coates's that are musicians. Now Raab Coates
