If you still listen to albums and believe songs can reflect a real life, this music may be for you. Dr Robb blends Americana, rockabilly, and pop—drawing inspiration from the raw, playful spirit of Sam Phillips and Sun Records—into songs that connect, validate, and occasionally amuse, shaped by experience and a lifelong love of making records.
Biography
I've been in the music biz for a long time. I was born and raised in a little town called Madison SD. I started out playing in a string of rock bands, then spent some time doing studio work in the Twin Cities area playing drums. After that, Did the coffee house circuit solo or with various other players for many years, singing and playing acoustic guitar, I've released several Americana/pop/country CDs over the past 15 years. Currently doing live shows with my side man Craig Wronsky (steel and 6 string electric). A trip to Memphis a few years ago had a major impact on my musical direction. I spent a little time hanging around Sun Records (the original studio which is now a museum in the day, and working studio at night), absorbing as much of the history and vibe of that era and place as I could. That led me to listening to everything Sam Phillips ever recorded. A real education. I try to follow Sam's motto: "If you ain't doin something different, you ain't doin anything."
"Your CD sounds really good! Your vox are strong – which is one of the hardest things for most ‘local’ artists to pull off"...Jim McGuinn, program director for The Current (MN Public Radio) Unusual, unexpected, surprising, delightful…these are common descriptors for Dr Robb's song choices and performances.
